Edith Lavone (Babcock) "Peg" Jimenez, joined by family at Clarksville City Hall Friday afternoon, will officially be 102 years old on Wednesday, May 17.
The widely-beloved Ms. Jimenez was recognized with proclamations from Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts, Montgomery County Mayor Wes Golden, and the Tennessee State Legislature's local delegation.
Her secret for a long life is to, "Trust in the Lord," adding, "I lean on Him all the time." Ms. Jimenez has two children, eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
A native of Kansas, Peg Jimenez was raised on a farm as the youngest of four children. She met her future husband, Warren Jimenez, after her family moved to Washington State. They married in 1942.
She worked as a nanny and taxi driver during the World War II era, until after the war when they moved to California and she became a mother.
After her husband retired, they moved to Bumpus Mills in neighboring Stewart County and they acquired Bumpus Mills Marina on the lake.
In 1992 Mr. Jimenez died, and Ms. Jimenez sold the marina. She moved to Clarksville in 2012 where she lives today, enjoying her love of art.
Ms. Jimenez enjoyed singing and playing guitar in her earlier years, and she has since enjoyed driftwood sculpting and making greeting cards.
She is a treasured matriarch of not only her own loving family, but the community.
