The front entrance to 106 Public Square will remain closed to the public beyond this week, after the process of removing the old exterior terracotta arch revealed additional, adverse structural conditions that will take longer to repair, said City of Clarksville Projects Manager John Hilborn.

"After meeting with a masonry restoration contractor and a structural engineer this (Tuesday) morning, the expected closure time for the entrance to 106 Public Square has been extended to May 22, 2023," Hilborn said.
Crews for B.R. Miller Company have been spending the early part of this week removing the old terracotta arch from the entrance of the historic structure that houses City Court and City Council Chambers.
The old terracotta arch had begun to separate from the building, and is to be reproduced, and replaced. There had also been concerns about other structural defects in the building that will require additional evaluation in coming days.
"We ask that the public please continue to enter 106 Public Square through the rear entrance to the building, or through the main lobby entrance to Clarksville Parks & Recreation at 102 Public Square," Hilborn said.

"The front stairwell at 106 has also been closed. Please use the rear elevator or stairwell at 106. In the event of an emergency, the front stairwell may be used," he said.

Security personnel will be on hand to help guide public entrances and exits.
