Special Operations

The department is committed to the suppression of narcotics and vice crime as well as organized crime. The Special Operations Drug Unit has the primary responsibility for the detection, enforcement, and documentation of organized crime, narcotics and vice law violations. Such violations may include, but are not limited to activities involving illegal drugs, weapons, alcohol, gambling, pornography, and prostitution.  Each officer of the department has a responsibility to conduct appropriate investigations whenever a violation is discovered or otherwise reported. If the violation is a misdemeanor, and the offense was committed in the officer's presence, the officer should take direct enforcement action. If the violation involves more serious vice or organized crime activity, the officer shall report the violation thru the on duty supervisor to the Special Operations Drug Unit. The Special Operations Drug Unit shall maintain the resources and capability to conduct covert operations for the control of vice, narcotics, and organized crime violations.
