The 30th Annual Queen City Road Race is scheduled for Sunday, April 13th at Austin Peay State University’s Governors Stadium.

A Note from the Race Director:

Over 1,200 runners braved the wet, cold and sometimes sleeting weather to participate in the 30th Annual Queen City Road Race on Sunday, April 13th at Austin Peay State University Football Stadium.  The runners competed in the 5K Run, the first annual Wilma Rudolph 5K Relay Run and the 1 Mile Fun Runs.  The race kicked off at 1:00 p.m. with the 5K runners and this year’s results are posted on the Nashville Striders Website at the following link:

http://www.nashvillestriders.com/results/08/QueenCity5K08.txt

The Nashville Striders were the official timers of the race with the Champion Chip Timing System.  This year, we experienced a couple of errors in posting the preliminary results that the Nashville Striders were able to retrace and correct the official results for the 5K Race before the awards ceremony.   During the registration process, a runner was listed twice and another runner dropped out causing a number to be skipped rather than deleted.  This made the overall assigned chips to the corresponding race numbers off by two runners. As a result of the mistake, our preliminary results were off by 2 runners.  By the time the official race results were announced, the error had been reconciled.

This was the first time in 9 years that we have been using the timing chip system that we have experienced any errors.  We are thankful to the Nashville Striders for catching the mistake in a timely manner and making the necessary corrections to our race results.

The Queen City Road Race will continue to use the Champion Chip Timing System as it has been the acceptable practice in races of this nature all across the country.  Since having the timing chip system as a part of our race, we have made it a habit to post preliminary results so that mistakes can be identified before the official results are announced.  Like all computer systems, human error can sometimes play a role for mistakes and we truly apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

For those of you who have had the first-time experience in using the Champion Timing Chip System in the Queen City Road Race, the gun time is never the official time of a runner, it is the chip time that is the official recorder of the race, going from the activation of the chip crossing the start matt on a runner’s shoe until the chip records the time when the runner crosses the finish matt.  This means that if a runner is in the back of the start line, the time does not start until the chip is activated when the runner steps on the start matt, not when the gun goes off and the digital clock is activated.  In some cases, the gun time may actually be faster for a runner when looking at the digital clock; however, it is the recorded chip time that matters.

On behalf of the Clarksville Parks & Recreation Department, thank you for coming out to compete in the 30th Annual Queen City Road Race and celebrating a healthy lifestyle.  I sincerely hope to see all of you next year when we celebrate the 2nd Annual Wilma Rudolph 5K Relay Race.  Congratulations to all of our winners!
