December 5, 2007 – The Tennessee Recreation and Parks Association recently presented the City of Clarksville Parks & Recreation Department a Four Star New Facility Award during the association’s annual conference in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. The Four Star Awards are the highest awards the association can confer on an agency. The Tennessee Recreation and Parks Association (headquartered in Murfreesboro, Tennessee) serves over 1,200 park, recreation and leisure service professional and citizen advocates in the state. Clarksville received its award for the Bark Park at Fairgrounds Park.
The Bark Park opened in the spring of 2006 and is located at the south end of Fairgrounds Park next to the Zinc Plant Road Bridge. Patrons can bring their dogs and allow them to run and exercise off-leash in this two-acre fenced in area. Amenities at the Bark Park include separate areas for large and small dogs, agility equipment, a pavilion, and water fountain. The Bark Park is open daily from dawn until dusk
