Clarksville Municipal Court, also known as Municipal court has jurisdiction in cases involving violations of city ordinances; such as traffic violations, building and codes violations, and other city ordinance offenses.
The Municipal Court Clerk's Office operates under the direction of the City Court Clerk, Ernie Griffith and supports the City Judge, Charles W. Smith. The Clerk's Office is the keeper of the records for the courts and accepts payments for all violations.

Our vision is to provide those appearing and practicing before the court with a fair, efficient and expeditious means of proceeding with their court business through competent, professional employees and the use of technology as well as other innovative measures.
The Clarksville Municipal Court begins each morning session at 8:00 AM, Tuesday through Friday. The length of each Court Session is determined by the number of cases scheduled on the docket. There are no sessions scheduled on Mondays for the Clarksville City Court.
All inquires concerning a court matter should be directed to the Municipal Court Clerk’s Office and not to the Judge’s Office. The Judge will not speak to you personally about your case before your court date
The Municipal Court is located at 106 Public Square, not at the new court complex. The Municipal Court Clerk’s Office is located at One Public Square Suite 122 Clarksville, TN 37040.
The main entrance to the Court Building is on Public Square. There is a handicap accessible entrance to the rear of the Court Building. The following items are not permitted in the Court Building: Knives (pocket, razors) Sprays (mace, pepper spray), Glass objects (bottles), Electronics (cameras, tape recorder), Backpacks, Fanny packs and/or Weapons of any kind.
Most violations can be paid on or before the assigned court date. The cost of a ticket is $140.75 for each violation that is listed on the ticket. If paid on or before the court date, it is the same as a guilty plea and is sent to the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security as a conviction. If the citation is paid late other fees will be added and you must contact our office in order to determine the price of the ticket.
Texting while driving charge is $65.00.
You may qualify to attend the Traffic Safety Course offered by the Clarksville Police Department. The total cost of the course is $150.00, which includes court costs. You may take another course provided that it is certified by the TN Department of Safety and Homeland Security. If you take a course other than the one provided by the Clarksville Police Department, you are still required to pay our court costs of $75.00 and provide our office with the certificate of completion. If you take a course that is not certified by the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security, your certificate of completion will not be accepted. It will be treated as if you had not attended a traffic safety course at all.
PAYING A CITATION
We do not accept personal checks for payment. We accept cash, money orders or cashier’s checks made payable to “City Court Clerk”. We also accept credit cards both in person and over the phone. We also accept payments on line at www.clarksvilletix.com. There are additional fees charged when paying with a credit/debit card or paying on line.
If you do not appear in court on the designated court date or pay this ticket before that date, you will be charged additional late penalties and fees for failure to appear and/or contempt of court.

You must contact the City Court Clerk's office to determine if you are eligible to attend the traffic school.
Violators will be held responsible for all costs incurred for the collection of any judgments resulting from tickets that were issued to them. This includes but is not limited to: fines, fees, court costs as well as collection costs and/or attorney fees.
City Court is located on the 2nd floor of 106 Public Square (across from the City Hall/US Bank Building). It is not located in the county court center on N. Second St.
