Operation Safe Ride on New Year's Eve
Posted Date: 12/31/2012

On New Year’s Eve, The Clarksville Transit System will again offer safe rides home.

“Operation Safe Ride” is a free service open to anyone who is too impaired to drive home.   People who live within the Clarksville city limits can call for a ride between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 4 a.m. for a ride home.

“Last year, we transported 165 people during ‘Operation Safe Ride’,” said Jimmy Smith, Director of the Clarksville Transit System.  “We’ve made sure that more than 500 people got home safely in the past four years.  We’re happy to be able to offer the program again this year.”

Anyone who cannot, or should not, drive home on New Year’s Eve can call 931-553-2429 to request a ride.  Information is also being posted in restaurants, bars and other stores around town with the phone number.  CTS emphasizes that this is not a shuttle service.  People will be picked up at their location and driven directly home.

“I encourage everyone who needs a safe ride home on New Year’s Eve to take advantage of this service.  If you plan to celebrate, please take the number with you.  You may save your life, and others, by taking this simple precaution,” said Mayor Kim McMillan.  “I want to thank CTS for making this service available again this year and I truly appreciate the CTS employees who are giving up their own celebrations to provide this service.”

On New Year’s Eve, the number to call for a safe ride is 931-553-2429.
